Swift Microwave Therapy

What is Swift Microwave Therapy?

Swift® is an advanced microwave treatment designed to treat plantar warts (verrucas) and common warts. Unlike traditional treatments that destroy the wart tissue directly, Swift works by stimulating your body's own immune system to recognise and eliminate the virus that causes the wart.

This treatment is suitable for both adults and children (where appropriate) and is particularly helpful for warts that have not responded to other treatments.

How does Swift Microwave Therapy work?

Swift delivers a very short burst of microwave energy into the affected tissue.

This energy:

  • Raises the temperature within the wart tissue for a few seconds.

  • Stimulates an immune response against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), the virus responsible for warts.

  • Encourages your body to naturally clear the wart over time.

Because Swift stimulates your immune system rather than simply removing the wart, it can also help treat virus-infected tissue beneath the surface.

What happens during Treatment?

Your appointment will usually take around 15–30 minutes.

During the appointment:

  • The wart will be assessed.

  • Excess hard skin may be gently reduced if required.

  • The Swift device is applied to the wart.

  • A series of short microwave pulses (typically 2 seconds each) are delivered.

Most patients receive 3–5 applications per wart during each appointment.

Does it hurt?

Most people experience a brief, sharp sensation during each microwave pulse that lasts only a couple of seconds.

After treatment, the discomfort usually settles quickly. Some patients experience mild tenderness for up to 24–48 hours, but most return to normal activities immediately.

No local anaesthetic is required.

How many treatments will I need?

Most patients require:

  • 3–4 treatment sessions

  • Appointments are usually scheduled 4 weeks apart

Some warts—particularly long-standing, large or multiple lesions—may require additional treatments.

Every person responds differently, and while Swift has a high success rate, no treatment can guarantee complete clearance.

Appointment Cost

What does the Aftercare of Swift Microwave Treatment look like?

One of the advantages of Swift is that there is very little aftercare.

You can:

  • Walk normally after treatment.

  • Shower and bathe as usual.

  • Continue work, sport and daily activities.

  • There is generally no need for dressings.

If the area feels sore, simple pain relief such as paracetamol or ibuprofen (if appropriate for you) can be used.

What are the Benefits of Swift Microwave Treatment?

  • No acids or chemicals.

  • No freezing.

  • No injections or anaesthetic.

  • Minimal aftercare.

  • Quick treatment appointments.

  • No open wound following treatment.

  • High success rates, including stubborn warts.

  • Suitable for many patients who have failed previous treatments.

Is Swift Microwave Treatment suitable for everyone?

Swift may not be suitable if you:

  • Have a pacemaker or certain implanted electronic medical devices.

  • Are pregnant (depending on clinician advice).

  • Have reduced sensation in the treatment area.

  • Have certain medical conditions that your podiatrist will discuss with you.

A full assessment will be carried out before treatment to ensure it is appropriate for you
